Abortion Isn’t a Dirty Word, so Why Is the Information Around It Censored?

On January 21, 2025, Donald Trump took down many government sites; reproductiverights.gov was among them. This is part of Project 2025, a project made by a conservative think tank, to remove access to reproductive care.
I believe information should be readily available to the public, free for all to access. Apparently Trump believes otherwise.
We decided it was on our shoulders, Necessary Behavior’s shoulders—to make something to fill the void left by the Trump administration’s need to control what information the public has access to. So many of us here at Necessary Behavior are women, trans, or queer, so we understand how important reproductive care is.
Welcome to the Reproductive Resource Hub: a consolidated resource hub listing how to access reproductive healthcare in the U.S., broken down by state. The hub explains how to access abortions, the laws surrounding reproductive healthcare by state, and resources for attaining birth control and other family planning needs. We also cover some places you can go if your state is under a total abortion ban and legal resources you can use.
This is part of our goal to get control back in the hands of the people that these laws affect. This is putting information back in the hands of the American people.

Reproductive healthcare is a viable and life-saving form of health care. It doesn’t matter if sharing information on reproductive healthcare disagrees with your beliefs. As long as the information is true, it should be available for public consumption, especially information about our own laws, government, restrictions around healthcare, and actions we can take. Information is the backbone of action, and misinformation is a tool for those in power to control those actions. These are not just innocent, random choices made by the government, it’s a form of media suppression in order to gain more control over our bodies. The way to fight misinformation, propaganda, censorship and lack of information is researching and sharing the information ourselves. We are not powerless; we are in control of our bodies, our choices, and our healthcare.
But something that Trump has forgotten is that he shouldn’t control our bodies, and doesn’t control our choices. And we will not put up with this without a fight. We can make these reproductive healthcare options stay for years to come if we take action.
I want to be clear: Donald Trump hasn’t taken away access to abortion yet, he just removed the database of information that made it readily available and easy to understand. He wants to control our bodies, and the first way to do that is making information less accessible to the public that needs it. As many states have made abortion illegal or placed great barriers to access abortion care, such as TRAP laws (aka Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) Trump has placed these decisions in the hands of the states, who can and are taking away our access to reproductive healthcare. The states are complicit with Project 2025 and Trump’s idea of what laws surrounding reproductive healthcare should be.
“It doesn’t matter if sharing information on reproductive healthcare disagrees with your beliefs. As long as the information is true, it should be available for public consumption, especially information about our own laws, government, restrictions around healthcare, and actions we can take. Information is the backbone of action, and misinformation is a tool for those in power to control those actions. ”
This is us giving you back the agency that the current administration has stripped away. Share it with family and friends. By sharing this, it helps the knowledge spread. And when knowledge spreads, access to reproductive healthcare can be funded. What’s funded is what sticks around as reproductive healthcare. If people don't know these reproductive healthcare options and places of care exist, then those healthcare choices and places can’t get money, then they won’t exist anymore. It’s a very slippery slope. As you look at this list, consider donating your time or money to assure these funds, such as travel funds in states where abortion is illegal, stay funded.
Don’t be afraid to email us to add resources if you come across any that we’re missing, especially if they’re grassroots organizations that are more local to your town and may not be listed on a state level.
I will end with what I wrote for the Reproductive Healthcare Hub page:
“Abortion isn’t a dirty word. Abortion is healthcare. And whether it’s you, a loved one, or a stranger that needs this information, it is offered here, without shame, without guilt, without pretense. Information should be free and easily accessible by all, and information on abortions, birth control, and the like are no exceptions to this.”
You are not alone and it is not hopeless. This isn’t Donald Trump winning. This is America preservering in spite of him.
