Takahiro Sakamoto via UnsplashOctober is just around the corner, and with cooler temperatures and moodier afternoons, it’s the perfect time to plan a date with your special someone. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor adventure or a cozy indoor activity, no worries. Here’s a list of 30 fall date ideas to enjoy with your partner (or even on your own):
Decorate Your Home: Go to a thrift or home decor store with your partner to pick out some fall decorations. Then, decorate your living space together.
DIY Day: Research fall DIY crafts on Pinterest, TikTok, or YouTube. Bonus points if you can use them as home decorations!
Movie Marathons: Plan a lineup of scary movies for Halloween, or keep it mellow with cozy, nostalgic films. Either way, make sure to bring the snacks (I’m looking at you, popcorn)!
Game Night: Plan a night dedicated to board and card games. It’s fun to play what you know, but don’t be afraid to throw something new into the mix.
Homemade Meals: Many food sites have a fall recipe category. Find a site you like and browse the recipes (Damn Delicious has a great list). Write down your favorites, and if you and your partner have a hard time choosing which to make, number them, and use Google’s “Random Number Generator” to decide!
Bake Fall Desserts: Pumpkin bread, candied pecans, caramel apples… there’s a fall treat for everyone! These desserts don’t just taste good; they’ll make your home smell great, too.
Homemade Candles: Want to make your home smell even better? Consider making homemade candles! They’re easy and super customizable, so you and your partner can choose exactly how you want your home to smell!
Follow a Painting Tutorial: Pick up a canvas and brush, and follow an online painting tutorial for an autumn scene. If you or your partner aren’t the artsy type, that’s okay! It’ll just be all the more entertaining. (If you have trouble finding a tutorial, I suggest Bob Ross’s “The Old Weathered Barn,” Season 28, Episode 7.)
Plan Halloween Costumes: With fall comes Halloween, so take a moment to plan your couples costume! Consider your shared shows, memories, pop culture references, or other niche interests. Let your creativity shine!
Go for a Hike: A walk is a perfect way to bond, giving a chance for meaningful conversation in a peaceful setting. Find a local trail or park to enjoy the changing leaves and crisp autumn air.
Fall Drive: Not up for a walk? That’s okay! Instead, take a peaceful fall drive along a scenic route. You can even listen to your favorite fall music, like The Cranberries, The Smashing Pumpkins, or Mazzy Star!
Apple Picking: Is it early in the season? Go to a local orchard for apple picking and see who can find the best-looking or biggest apple. Afterward, use your haul to bake some cinnamon apples (or make other apple snacks).
Pumpkin Patch: It wouldn’t be fall without a trip to your local pumpkin patch! Plus, you’ll get a staple fall decoration, or even an ingredient!
Pumpkin Carving: Whether cute or spooky, pumpkin carving is a great couples’ activity! Just make sure to save the seeds: you can season and roast them as a tasty fall treat.
Picnic: What should you do with all these fall snacks and dishes? The answer: Plan a picnic featuring all your favorite fall foods!
Coffee Shop Date: Fall is one of the most popular seasons for a latte, and who can blame you during pumpkin spice and cinnamon season? Don’t just go for a tasty drink; bring something fun, too: board games, card games, coloring books, diamond paintings, or sticker-by-numbers are great ways to spend time together.
Farmers Market: From handmade crafts to fresh produce, a farmers market is a great way to spend a relaxing Saturday.
Haunted House/Trail: Experience scares that’ll get your adrenaline pumping and bring you closer to your partner (emotionally and physically)!
Haunted Amusement Parks: Want to take it up a notch? See if your local amusement park offers an extra-spooky experience. With scare zones, nighttime rides, and live shows, you and your partner can enjoy an unforgettable night.
Fall Festivals: Hosting local artisans, breweries, and other businesses, fall festivals are a great way to celebrate the season.
Corn Maze: Get lost in a corn maze, put your teamwork to the test, and see how long it takes you and your partner to make it out together.
Downtown Shopping: Explore your local downtown and support small businesses, pumpkin spice latte in hand!
Bookstore Hopping: Fall is a great season for reading, so see what your local bookstores have to offer! Find a book you and your partner will both enjoy, and take turns reading it together.
Boo Baskets: Fill “boo baskets” with each other’s favorite fall scents or cozy items.
Fall Photoshoot: Dress up in your sweaters and boots and find a cute fall setting for a couples’ photoshoot. Or, save this for Halloween and take photos in your Halloween costumes.
Stargazing: Find an area far from the city lights; the earlier sunsets make fall a great time for stargazing!
Bonfire and S'mores: Spend a night around the bonfire, enjoying s'mores and telling spooky stories.
Ghost Tour: Nothing sets the mood better than a ghost tour. Explore historic sites and spooky locations, and learn about the darker side of your town’s history.
Drive-in Movies: Drive-ins are a fun way to watch a fall or Halloween movie while enjoying a chilly night, with retro aesthetics to boot.
Zip-lining: Zoom above the fall foliage with a little bit of scare factor. Zip-lining will immerse you in the excitement of fall.
Whether with a partner, friend, or by yourself, slow down and set aside time to enjoy the changing seasons. We all deserve days to relax, and by using the list above, you’ll surely find something you’ll love.
